Such techniques try replicating natural reproduction, with an objective to locate the most optimal target for successful embryo placement. “The usual embryo transfer relies mainly on the judgement and the ‘clinical feel’ of the medical experts as to whether the catheter is in the correct position. But with ultrasound guided transfers, the placement of the catheter in the uterus cavity is guided technologically, making transfers easier with less catheter distortion,” explains Dr Gautam Allahbadia, IVF Specialist Mumbai and a noted world authority on Ultrasound Guided Embryo Transfer.
The process has proven to improve success rate of pregnancies, along with avoiding difficult transfers, mitigating contamination with blood, and further reducing any related afflictions.
